I’m going to get into bogging in a big way soon as I have so much to say about things and stuff and bits and bobs but those of you that know me and of me know I really loath the music BUSINESS and I loath it because I know it very very well, I have been in it since 1988 in almost every way imaginable so I really do know it better than most I can think of and I can think of some very big music moguls here… But who am I? I’m just this little underground record producer invisible to most people yet having been into so much I'm a true recluse in this horrible business and luckily my underground success has allowed me to be who ' I 'want to be.. I am no one ..... yet everyone have contributed to my success? It’s a paradox that I like and after taking a few years off I’m looking at the business and it has been changing a lot and now I’m starting to enjoy what I’m seeing…. All my life I have been the underdog dealing with 95% of the music business that has nothing to do with making music “the suits” they run the record company’s the distribution the royalty collection ya da ya da ya da.. Why are they in this business? hummm… they don’t actually make any music they just use the music to pay their wages and so the Artist is always getting screwed. But guess what? As the music business is changing its not the Artists that are disappearing …its all the blood sucking business men that are having trouble making a living from the artist…. Google vs PRS…like I care.. The big fish are starting to prey on each other as we little ‘Artists’ take back our music and say, “f*ck off ill do it myself and if I get less at least its still mine to try again with because i will own it". This is actually the thing I have always said about my music but as the music 'bizz' dries up and it’s harder to make enough money to feed the 'big business fish' they are starting to fight and eat each other. Google don’t want to pay so much for plays on their ‘Youtube’ website and the PRS are supposed to "act for the artist” and they want enough money to make it all worth their while ...you know ? for them to run that huge office and staff so that they can take their slice of commission for collecting it and then distributing it to Artists they feel is deserving of the collections they have left… now somewhere in this Artist are supposed to get paid...O'h that would be I suppose after expenses and stuff you know commissions and legal fees and wages , and that company bonuses and pay rises...? Now I’m supposed to be supporting the PRS because they are my defender you know of the artist? ..thats me ? im told they pay out hundreads of thousands of money to Artist every years (after their expences / running costs you know) Well having been in the game all my years I can honestly say that "Dance music" is still the least represented music that is accurately distributed to and so like all the other bullshitting music company’s us independent 'ARTIST’s' still don’t get their fair share no matter what royalty rate they try to agree with Google or any one else. I see those PRS stickers at clubs and venues and I know my music is getting hammered but do I see a percentage of that income they collect from the licenses they give out…lets see its 20 years in the biz now...hmmm...many UK and Dance top 40 hits and even more big underground club hits blah blah bloddy blah…. Well I’m sure you know my answer and it simply that Mr...oops.....Sir Elton John will get paid and a few lucky underground heads that got some rotation on daytime radio but the underground dance music scene is not looked after and never has been even though its one of the biggest forms of music being sold, played and downloaded around the world. Do I really care if Google are paying royalty’s to PRS or not?…..hmm I would prefer GOOGLE to have some form of open submissions for plays for all to see the income rather than this closed shop between them and PRS as actually us artist would love to do it ourselves and actually see what’s going on. Its all "boll*x?" and it makes no difference to the underground independents So Mr BIG Music company’s (of all kinds) Go eat each other as I’m waiting for more big fish to drop so I have some space to grow!! I'm not dead but the DJ part is….. I think I have got thru the hardest part of being depressed but a lot has changed since my last blog… I'm currently in my Bulgarian retreat for the summer but now I'm no longer living in the uk My new home is on an island where it's always hot!! And everything runs easy ;) So what's been happening in the world…? Hum.. I read about people in the UK getting stabbed and kids doing it, now this is like watching a TV programme… I feel I have escaped the mad world and its not been easy to escape I still have my place in the uk if anyone has a mill to spend. I know I won't be moving back to the UK for any length of time because the pressures and speed is just beyond me .. I think I have spent many years ahead of the pack running like mad doing party's making music djing its all just become pointless to keep the pressure on. I'm lucky that I survived the transition and now things are much easier with no traffic I nip to the empty beach and just contemplate.., no loony's, no stress?.. Ok there is always a bit of stress even in paradise but its things I can cope with I'm now looking into the fish bowl rather than being a fish in it with the sharks snapping at me… Things are looking up ..I used to see so much sadness in peoples faces but now people are smiling (at least where I am) So now I want to push the music I have made and I'm currently looking now for talented music video people that can create videos for my releases also I would like to get some radio support for some of the more radio tunes and see how it all fairs… Apple and their itunes has contacted me again..... All that complaining about Apple itunes and mp3's and now after their last request I have decided to give itunes my music… How can I explain the u-turn…? "Only fight the battles you have a chance of winning?" thats the best way to describe my feelings So YES it's a u-turn on selling my music as an mp3 but I suppose I always knew the day would come… My solicitor told me last week that she does not know of any other independent that has been offered a direct global deal with apple inc. so I suppose I'm in a lucky situation with them as I'm dealing directly with them and not with a middle man (aggregator). In truth for me the benefit is my Apple partner discounts ;) So I can buy any Apple products at huge discount? from an Apple store with my partner account BLING BLING!!! ARRRRRRR///SSSHH**TTT there is NO Apple Store on this Island!... serves me right for trying to bling! was never a good blinger.....suppose i will have to fly back and buy some stuff ... So anyway I'M BACK and I'M BETTER (although I still have down days) I'm going to try and shine in 2009 with a radio campaign on kiss 100 for the albums being organised So you should all call your favorite radio station and start requesting tracks by "Mark ruff Ryder" to be played as this can only help when I start to release the singles.
